Maps vs normal results

Google Maps ranks you differently from the normal results

The map pack and the list of links sit on the same page, but different things decide each one. That's why many businesses show up in one and not the other.

At a glance

One search, two sets of results

The same search shows a map and a list of links. Each is ranked on its own factors. You can be in one and missing from the other.

A local search results page split in two.

The map pack

  • How close you are to the searcher
  • The main category on your Business Profile
  • How complete it is: services, hours, photos
  • How many reviews you have, and how often
  • Whether you have one profile, or three

The links below it

  • Whether you have a page for that service and place
  • How clearly your site shows you work there
  • Links and mentions from other websites
  • Crawling, speed and indexing
  • Whether your location pages compete

Common problems

Not showing up in the map pack? Here's how we fix it.

Your main category is wrong.
Your main category matters more than almost anything else on the profile. Pick what people search for, not what you call yourself. A clinic listed as a "medical clinic" loses to a rival listed under the treatment people want.
You have two profiles, and neither is winning.
Duplicates come from staff, directories, an old agency or a move. They split your reviews and often outrank the profile you manage. We find them and get them merged first.
Your website never says you serve the area.
Your profile can list a service area, but your website has to back it up. If it never mentions the suburbs you cover or the jobs done there, Google has nothing to go on.
Your reviews come in bursts.
Thirty reviews in one week, then nothing for six months, looks odd to platforms and customers. A steady flow looks better to both.

What's included

What our local SEO service includes

Scope depends on your business. One clinic and a company with forty branches need very different things.

  • A full Google Business Profile audit: verification, categories, services, hours, products, photos and Q&A
  • Finding duplicate listings, getting them merged and recovering suspended profiles
  • Main and extra categories picked from what people search for
  • Service-area setup if you don't have a public storefront
  • A plan for your location pages: how many, what each says and how they link
  • Location and area pages written one at a time, never copied
  • Matching business details across the directories that still matter
  • A review routine that fits how you work and follows platform rules
  • Local content your customers will find useful
  • Call and form tracking, with local enquiries reported on their own

How it works

How we get you on the map, step by step

Order matters. Writing content before fixing a suspended profile wastes months.

  1. Secure and fix your profile

We sort out verification, ownership, duplicates, suspensions and categories. Nothing else is worth doing while your profile is at risk.

You get: A profile you own, in the right category

  2. Map local demand

We find which services people search for, where and in what words. If the ceiling is lower than you hoped, you'll know here.

You get: A map of demand by service and area

  3. Fix your site structure

We decide which pages you need for each service and area, stop pages competing and link them properly.

You get: A plan for location and service pages

  4. Write each page properly

Each page is written for its own area and service, with specific detail. Many agencies automate this step, yet it decides whether your rankings last.

You get: Pages live, each one written for its area

  5. Keep reviews and mentions coming

We set up a review routine you can repeat and earn local mentions and links without paying for them.

You get: A routine your team can run without us

Questions

Common local SEO questions

Why does my business not show up on Google Maps?

Usually one of five reasons: your profile isn't verified or was suspended, your main category doesn't match the search, you're too far from the searcher, your details don't match across the web, or a duplicate listing is splitting your reviews.

You can't change distance. Everything else can be fixed, and finding the cause usually takes days.

Can you guarantee I will rank in the map pack?

No. Distance to the searcher is a big factor, and it's different for every search, so nobody can promise a position.

We make sure everything you control is right. Before you spend anything, we show you how much room there is to grow in your area.

How do you handle reviews?

We set up a routine that asks every customer for a review at the right moment, within platform rules. Asking everyone, every time, beats one-off campaigns.

We don't buy, reward or write reviews, or only ask happy customers. We don't set staff review targets, ask customers to name an employee, or put a tablet on your counter for reviews. Google's review policy bans all of these, and they put your profile at risk.

We have multiple locations. Do we need a page for each one?

Usually yes, as long as each page says something true and specific about that location: team, services, areas covered, parking, hours or local details.

If a page would repeat the same copy with a new city name, don't build it. Pages like that compete with each other and search engines treat them as low value.

We do not have a storefront. Does local SEO still apply?

Yes, but the setup is different. A service-area business hides its address and lists the areas it serves instead.

Your website then matters even more, because it has to show where you work and you can't lean on being close to searchers.
