Serving Washington State remotely
SEO and digital marketing across Washington State, east and west
SEO and digital marketing across Washington State, planned separately for the tech and trade economy west of the Cascades and the farm economy east.

The market
Two economies split by a mountain range
The Cascade Range splits the state into two economies. West of it: software, cloud infrastructure, aerospace, biotechnology and the ports. East of it: orchards, vineyards, wheat, cattle, and the processing and cold storage that go with them.
Washington levies business and occupation tax on gross receipts, not profit, and has no state income tax. Owners think about revenue quality differently as a result, and a plan chasing volume at thin margin is a harder sell here.
The seaports handle a big share of container traffic between Asia and North America, and interior farm exports move through the same corridor, so even mid-sized firms end up with international customers.
The state has legislated on consumer health data more aggressively than any other, and that reaches marketing technology on ordinary commercial sites, not just clinical ones.
Health data you didn't think you had
Washington defines health data far more widely than a clinic would
The state rules reach data that can be used to infer a condition or a service someone sought, and they apply to Washington residents wherever the business itself happens to sit.
Could your data infer a condition or a service sought?
Yes: Fitness, nutrition, sleep and fertility products routinely can, and that is the definition the state uses.
No: Have counsel confirm it. The statute follows Washington residents, not your own address.
Does any campaign geofence a health care facility?
Yes: Geofencing those facilities to serve health-related advertising is prohibited here.
No: Good, and keep location targeting documented so the answer stays checkable later.
Is there a separate consumer health data notice?
Yes: Then consent, and any authorization to sell, can be evidenced, not argued about afterwards.
No: One privacy policy doing everything is the usual gap, and consent for collection is a separate requirement.
How people search
Tech language west, crop language east
How do people in Washington State look for a business like yours? The answer changes what we fix first.
- Puget Sound buyers use product and category vocabulary borrowed from the tech industry, while eastern Washington buyers use crop, variety, equipment and pack-house language. That justifies separate campaigns.
- Cost per click for equivalent business terms runs far higher around the metro than east of the mountains, so a statewide budget silently shifts money west unless you split the geography.
- Export inquiries often start outside the country, so results include foreign suppliers, and the practical questions are about shipping terms, certification and payment.
- Honoring consent choices properly reduces what your analytics can see. That's the intended effect of the rules, so set your baseline with it included.

Local businesses
Software firms, growers and export traders
Software, cloud services and connected hardware firms cluster around Puget Sound, selling nationally and internationally from the start. Category authority matters far more to them than local visibility.
Food, beverage and agricultural businesses in the center and east sell into distribution, retail and export channels, where buyers ask about volume, certification, cold chain and consistency.
Distribution, freight forwarding and customs businesses along the trade corridor compete on capacity and reliability. Their websites get consulted as evidence, not read as marketing.
Health-related consumer products in fitness, nutrition, mental wellbeing, sleep and fertility tracking are the most likely to get caught out by state law, since they rarely see themselves as handling health data.
Where to start
Services that fit best
International SEO
International SEO starts with one choice: country domains, subfolders or subdomains. Then hreflang that validates and pages adapted to each market.
Analytics & attribution
Marketing analytics and attribution you can trust, with a written account of where the data is blind and tests for what attribution can’t answer.
Technical SEO
Technical SEO makes sure Google can crawl, read and index your pages, and that your site is fast. We fix what blocks them so the rest of your SEO can pay off.
Content SEO
Our SEO content services start with the pages you already have. We decide which to update, rewrite, merge or remove, and fix the links between them.
Working with us
What working with us looks like
On anything that might touch health-related data, we raise the question before installing a tool and give your counsel a plain list of what each script collects. The ruling is theirs.
Trading on both sides of the mountains? We run separate plans with separate budgets and targets, because a shared statewide account ends up funding the expensive half of the state.
The rules
What you can and can’t say
- The Washington My Health My Data Act covers consumer health data far more broadly than clinical records, reaching data that identifies or can be used to infer a health condition or a related service someone sought. It requires consent for collection, separate authorization for any sale and a distinct privacy notice, and bans geofencing around health care facilities to serve health-related ads. It applies to Washington consumers wherever the business sits, backed by the state Consumer Protection Act. Confirm scope with your counsel.
- The Washington Commercial Electronic Mail Act restricts misleading subject lines and sender information in commercial email and reaches commercial texts to Washington numbers, tied to the same Consumer Protection Act. Don't assume the federal baseline covers you.
- The state Consumer Protection Act governs unfair and deceptive practices, and private parties as well as the Attorney General can bring claims. Advertising claims need proof held before publication.
- None of this is legal advice. We document what every tool on a site collects and where it sends it, so your counsel can rule quickly.

Questions
Common questions from Washington State businesses
Does the state health data law affect a business that is not in healthcare?
It can. Consumer health data covers information from which a health condition or a health service someone sought could be inferred, which reaches fitness, nutrition, sleep, fertility and mental wellbeing products.
We flag anything in that territory before it goes live and describe exactly what the tool collects. Whether your business is in scope is a call for your counsel.
Should eastern and western Washington be planned separately?
In nearly every case, yes. The industries, vocabulary and click costs all differ, so a single statewide campaign spends most of its budget around the metro regardless of where the revenue is.
Separate campaigns also allow separate targets. A cost per inquiry that's excellent in Spokane may be unremarkable in Bellevue, and one blended number hides both.
How does the gross receipts tax change a marketing plan?
It makes revenue quality matter more than volume. Since the tax applies to gross receipts, not profit, low-margin work carries a cost a profit-based system wouldn't impose.
That argues for campaigns aimed at higher-value services and better-fit customers, not the cheapest inquiry. Your accountant should confirm the position for your classification.
We export to Asia. What should the website do differently?
Answer the trade questions before the product questions. Shipping terms, minimum volumes, certification, lead times, payment methods and who to contact in which time zone decide more overseas inquiries than feature lists.
Language matters too, and it has to be written, not machine-translated. A page that reads as translated undermines the credibility it was meant to build.
Do you have a Washington presence?
None, and we won't manufacture one. No workspace, resident employee or in-state phone number.
Calls run on Pacific time, everything is built in accounts you control, and anything needing someone on site is sourced locally and quoted separately.
