The short answer

What should a retail store website include?

A retail store website needs your hours, holiday closures, address and parking up front, a way to see what is in stock before visiting, and reserve or click-and-collect for popular items. Add your returns policy in plain words, sale pages that compare against genuine regular prices, and an events calendar, so local searches turn into store visits.

Built in

What every retail store website includes

  • In-stock search without a full online store

A product catalogue fed from your point-of-sale system, showing what is on the shelf at your location. We connect Square, Lightspeed, Shopify POS or Clover where their access allows, so stock counts update themselves.

  • Reserve and click-and-collect

Customers hold an item or pay ahead and pick it up at the counter. Holds expire on the timer you set and staff get each request on a tablet, so nothing waits forgotten in an inbox.

  • Hours that are right on holidays

Regular hours, holiday closures and seasonal late nights set once and published to the site, Google Business Profile and structured data together, so nobody drives over to a locked door.

  • An events calendar that fills the store

Signings, workshops, tastings and kids’ mornings, each with its own page, seat reservations and a reminder email, so events bring regulars back and rank for “things to do” searches nearby.

  • Honest sale and regular pricing

Sale pages show the regular price only when you have the sales or time history to back it, with start and end dates, so a promotion never becomes a misleading “was” price.

  • Returns, exchanges and gift receipts in plain words

One returns page that matches the sign at the till: how many days, receipt or not, store credit or refund, final-sale items, and how gift receipts work.

  • A local page for every shopping trip

Parking, transit, accessible entrance and neighbouring shops on the visit page, with your Google Business Profile kept in sync, so “near me” searches find a page with real directions.

Compliance

The rules for retail stores, handled in the design

Pricing claims, holiday hours and returns are where a shop’s website most often contradicts the shop. These are the rules the designs plan for; each rule links to its source.

Sources gathered October 1, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your lawyer or local business licensing office has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.

  • Canada

    Regular price and sale claims

The Competition Act prohibits materially misleading representations about a product’s ordinary selling price, and the Competition Bureau’s guidance sets volume and time tests for a “regular price”. Sale pages only show a regular price you can support and state the sale dates.

Competition Bureau Canada — Ordinary price claims

  • US

    Former price comparisons

The FTC’s Guides Against Deceptive Pricing say a former price used in a comparison should be one the item was openly and actively offered at, in good faith, for a reasonably substantial period. Compare-at prices on the site are a field you fill from your own history, never generated.

US — Guides Against Deceptive Pricing, 16 CFR Part 233 (eCFR)

  • Ontario

    Retail business holidays

Ontario’s Retail Business Holidays Act requires most retail stores to close on listed public holidays unless an exemption or municipal by-law applies, and the list was amended in 2026. The hours module publishes holiday closures you confirm against the Act in force.

  • Ontario

Returns and refunds are a store policy

Ontario’s consumer guidance explains that stores generally do not have to accept returns of goods that are not defective unless they have a policy that says so, which is why the policy should be clear before purchase. The returns page and the till sign use the same wording.

Ontario — Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act

  • US

Web accessibility for businesses open to the public

The US Department of Justice’s guidance says businesses open to the public under ADA Title III should make their websites accessible to people with disabilities, and points to WCAG as a helpful standard. The designs target WCAG 2.2 AA for search, holds and checkout.

Questions

Retail stores: common questions

How much does a retail store website cost?
A retail store website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
Can my store website show what is in stock?
Yes. The catalogue reads from your point-of-sale system, so the site shows what is on the shelf at your store and updates as items sell. We connect Square, Lightspeed, Shopify POS or Clover where their access allows; if your system has no feed, staff can update key items from a simple dashboard.
Do I need a full online store to offer click-and-collect?
No. Customers can reserve an item to pay in store, or pay ahead for pickup, without you running delivery or a full ecommerce operation. Holds expire on a timer you set and each request reaches staff on a tablet at the counter. If you later want shipping, the same catalogue grows into an online store.
How do I keep holiday hours right on my website and Google?
You set regular hours, holiday closures and seasonal late nights once in the site, and they publish to the visit page, the structured data search engines read and your Google Business Profile together. In Ontario, check the Retail Business Holidays Act and any local by-law before opening on a public holiday.
Can I show sale prices next to the regular price?
Yes, when the regular price is genuine. In Canada a “regular price” claim needs sales or time history behind it, and US guidance expects a former price to have been openly offered for a substantial period. The compare-at price is a field you fill from your own records, with sale start and end dates.
Can I request an app, SEO or marketing for my shop as well?
Yes. Shop owners use one form to ask for a new website, a loyalty app, local SEO or marketing, in any combination. Many shops pair the website with local SEO so “near me” searches find them; a loyalty or back-in-stock app is quoted separately once regulars visit often enough to use it.
Will my retail store website rank on Google?
It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
Can I get one of these retail store website designs?
Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for retail stores. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
