Websites for self storage
Self storage website design that rents units online, fees and all
Self storage website design for single facilities and multi-site operators, with a tenant portal where it fits: live unit availability by size, online rental and move-in, a total monthly price with every mandatory fee included, protection plans explained as optional, and late-payment steps written out plainly.
- Website from $150/month, yours after 12 payments
- SEO plans from $149/month
The short answer
What should a self storage website include?
A self storage website should let a customer pick a unit size, see whether it is free at the nearest facility and rent it online in minutes. The price shown should already include every mandatory fee, protection or insurance should be clearly optional, and the late payment and lien process should be explained before anyone signs.
- Price
- $1,500 upfront, or $150/month × 12
- Ownership
- Yours after 12 payments
- Hosting and care
- $29 or $49/month
- Build time
- About 4 weeks for a local site

What every self storage facility website includes
Live unit availability by size
Unit sizes, features and how many are free come from your management software, so the site never offers a unit that rented an hour ago. Customers filter by size, climate control, drive-up access and floor.
Rent and sign online
A customer reserves or rents a unit, signs the lease and gets a gate code without visiting the office. Each step is mobile-first, because most rentals start on a phone in the middle of a move.
Total price, fees included
Every listed monthly price already includes the admin fee and any other compulsory charge, with only government taxes added later. Several jurisdictions now treat a lower headline price as misleading, and customers stop comparing once they trust the number.
Protection plans explained as optional
A plain page says what the protection plan or insurance covers, who provides it and that the customer may rely on their own home policy instead. Where a licence is needed to sell insurance, the page names the licensed seller.
Late payment and lien steps in plain words
Before signing, tenants see what happens if rent is late: reminders, fees, when access is paused and the notice that comes before any sale. Fewer surprises means fewer disputes and fewer auctions.
A size guide that sells the right unit
Drawn size comparisons, a what-fits list and a two-question helper steer people to a size that will actually hold their things. Fewer upgrades on move-in day, fewer half-empty units.
A page for every facility
Each facility gets its own page with address, gate and office hours, photos, units and reviews, so a multi-site operator ranks in every town it serves. Prices and terms are set per facility.
Accessible from the first click
Unit search, rental and payment are built to WCAG AA: keyboard use, screen-reader labels, visible focus and contrast that holds up outdoors. Ontario requires it of larger organisations, and it helps every renter.
Compliance
The rules for self storage, handled in the design
Storage operators are told how prices must be shown, how insurance may be sold and what must happen before a lien sale. These are the website rules we design around in California, Canada, Ontario, the UK and the US, each linked to its source.
Sources gathered October 1, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your lawyer or your state or provincial regulator has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.
- California
Advertised prices must include mandatory fees
Since July 2024 California bars advertising, displaying or offering a price that leaves out mandatory fees or charges, other than government taxes and fees and reasonable shipping. Every unit price on the designs is the total monthly price, admin fee included.
California Attorney General — SB 478, hidden fees (Civil Code §1770(a)(29))
- Canada
No drip pricing
The Competition Act treats a price as misleading when it cannot be attained because fixed obligatory charges are added later, and since 2024 only fees imposed by provincial or federal law may be left out. Canadian versions show the full monthly price with sales tax noted separately.
Competition Bureau — Guide to the 2022 amendments to the Competition Act
- UK
The total price, up front
Since April 2025 UK consumer law requires invitations to purchase, including online listings, to show a total price that includes mandatory fees, or the information needed to work it out. UK versions list each unit at its full weekly or monthly price.
- California
Selling storage insurance needs a licence and disclosures
A self-service storage facility may offer insurance to renters only with a limited licence, and must give written material that names the insurer and says insurance is not required to rent and may duplicate the renter’s own cover. The protection page carries those statements.
California Department of Insurance — Self-service storage agent licence
- California
Lien sales may be advertised online
Since a 2023 amendment, California lets an operator advertise a lien sale once in a newspaper and once on a publicly accessible website that runs or advertises online auctions, left up for seven days before the sale, instead of two weekly newspaper notices. Sale notices go to that kind of auction site, not the facility’s marketing pages.
- Ontario
Written notice before a storer sells
Under the Repair and Storage Liens Act a storer with a right to sell must first give written notice of intention to sell, within the time the Act sets. The lease summary explains this in plain words, and nothing on the site suggests goods can be sold without notice.
- Ontario
Accessible websites for larger organisations
Ontario’s Integrated Accessibility Standards require businesses and non-profits with 50 or more employees to keep their public websites, and content added since 2012, at WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with two narrow exceptions for captions and audio description. Every design is built to that level so a growing operator does not have to rebuild.
Government of Ontario — How to make websites accessible (O. Reg. 191/11, s. 14)
- US
Web accessibility under the ADA
The Justice Department’s guidance says businesses open to the public should make their websites accessible to people with disabilities under the ADA. Unit search, online rental and payment are tested with a keyboard and a screen reader before launch.

Questions
Self storage: common questions
- How much does a self storage website cost?
- A self storage website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
- Can customers rent a storage unit online from my website?
- Yes. Customers search by size and features, see which units are free, sign the lease and pay online, then get a gate code without visiting the office. Availability and rentals come from your management software where it offers a connection; otherwise reservations arrive by email or webhook and staff confirm them.
- Do I have to include admin fees in my advertised storage prices?
- In several places, effectively yes. California bars advertising a price that leaves out mandatory fees, Canada’s Competition Act treats dripped compulsory charges as misleading, and the UK now requires a total price in online listings. Showing the full monthly price, with government taxes noted, is the safe default everywhere.Your lawyer or regulator has the final word on how a move-in offer or a variable fee should be worded.
- Can the site sell protection plans or storage insurance?
- It can explain and offer them, as long as they are presented as optional and described accurately. In California a facility needs a limited licence to sell storage insurance and must say it is not required to rent. The protection page names the provider, summarises the cover and links the full terms.
- Do you build a tenant portal or self storage app?
- Yes, for operators who want one. Tenants pay and set up autopay, open the gate from their phone, read every notice and request a different unit size, and managers see the same records. It is scoped with an advisor and quoted separately, with your management and gate systems checked before any promise is made.
- Will my self storage facility website rank on Google?
- It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
- How long does a self storage website take to build?
- About 4 weeks for a local site and about 8 weeks for a larger one, counted from the day we have your content, logo, photos and licence details. A larger site is planned with an advisor first, so its timeline is confirmed in writing before any work starts. Before launch you rent a test unit, check the total price and read the late-payment page on your phone.
- Can I get one of these self storage website designs?
- Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for self storage. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
