The short answer
What should a restaurant website include?
A restaurant website needs a menu written as text, not a PDF, with prices and an allergen key; correct hours, including holidays; a reservation button that books in two taps; direct pickup or delivery ordering; and a private dining enquiry form. Chains with 20 or more locations also need calorie information on menus, including the online menu people order from.

What every restaurant website includes
A menu Google and guests can read
Your menu as real text with prices, an allergen key and dietary filters, marked up as structured data so search engines read the dishes. You edit a dish once and the page, the PDF and the print menu follow.
Reservations in two taps
A booking button on every page that opens OpenTable, Resy, Tock or SevenRooms, where the provider’s access allows, or our own request form if you take bookings by phone. Large parties are routed to a manager.
Direct ordering, off the commission apps
Pickup and delivery ordering through Toast, Square or your existing online ordering, linked or embedded where the provider allows, with pickup times and any service charge shown in the price before checkout.
Private dining that books itself
A page per room with capacity, minimum spend set by you and sample menus, and an enquiry form that collects date, party size and occasion up front, so the events manager can reply with a proposal the same day.
Calorie-ready menus for groups
Each dish has optional calorie and nutrition fields and the statements chain menu-labelling rules ask for, ready to switch on when a group reaches the location count that triggers them.
A page for every location
Multi-site groups get a page per restaurant with its own hours, holiday hours, menu, booking link and photos, matched to its Google Business Profile, so each location competes in its own neighbourhood.
Gift cards and events
Sell gift cards online with their terms stated before purchase, and list wine dinners, guest-chef nights and holiday menus as events that search engines can show.
Compliance
The rules for restaurants, handled in the design
Restaurant websites carry menu rules as well as design: calories for larger chains, allergen and raw-food notices, all-in prices and accessible booking. Each rule below links to its source.
Sources gathered October 1, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your lawyer or local health unit has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.

Calories on chain menus, online menus included
A restaurant in a chain of 20 or more locations under the same name, selling substantially the same items, must declare calories on menus and menu boards, and FDA guidance counts an online menu people can order from. The menu template has a calorie field beside each price and room for the required statements.

- Ontario
Healthy Menu Choices Act
Food service businesses with 20 or more locations in Ontario post calories for standard items, and the province’s guide applies this to menus used outside the restaurant, online menus and ordering apps included. Calories sit beside the dish name or price, as prominent as the price, with the contextual statement the regulation sets.

- US · state law
Raw and undercooked dishes
The FDA Food Code, which states adopt in their own versions, asks for a consumer advisory when animal foods are served raw or undercooked: a disclosure that marks those dishes and a reminder about the risk. The menu can asterisk oysters, tartare or burgers cooked to order and carry the reminder your health department accepts.
- Canada
Mandatory service charges in the price
The Competition Act treats a price as misleading when a mandatory fee is added on top of it, unless the fee is imposed by government, such as sales tax. If you add a compulsory service charge or an online ordering fee, the menu and checkout include it in the price shown, not at the last step.
- US
Real guest reviews only
Since October 2024 a federal trade rule prohibits fake or AI-written reviews, paying for reviews that must be positive, and misrepresenting a review page as showing all reviews when negative ones are suppressed. The site shows real reviews with their source, and review requests never depend on a good rating.
US — 16 CFR Part 465, consumer reviews and testimonials (eCFR)

Accessible menus and booking
Ontario’s Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation sets WCAG 2.0 level AA as the bar for the public websites of private-sector employers with 50 or more staff, which takes in many restaurant groups. Every design is built to WCAG 2.1 AA, so the menu, the reservation button and the ordering path work with a keyboard and a screen reader.

Apps
Most restaurants do not need an app: a fast mobile site with booking and direct ordering is enough. An app starts paying back for groups whose regulars order every week.

Apps for restaurantsBranding
A restaurant brand lives on the menu, the sign and the takeout bag before it ever lives on a website, so the identity has to work in print and on a phone screen.

Questions
Restaurants: common questions
- How much does a restaurant website cost?
- A restaurant website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
- Can my restaurant website take reservations and online orders?
- Yes. Every page has a booking button that opens your reservation system, such as OpenTable, Resy, Tock or SevenRooms, where the provider’s access allows, and ordering links or embeds Toast, Square or your current online ordering. If you take bookings by phone, a request form sends each one to your inbox and phone instead. We connect the systems you already pay for; we do not resell them or claim a partnership with them.
- Should my menu be a PDF or a web page?
- A web page. A text menu loads fast on a phone, can be read by screen readers and search engines, and carries an allergen key and dietary filters. You edit each dish once in the site, and a printable PDF is generated from the same menu, so the two never disagree about prices or allergens.
- Do I have to show calories or allergens on my online menu?
- Calories depend on size. In the US and in Ontario, restaurants in a chain of 20 or more locations must show calories, and both count an online menu people order from. Allergen rules for restaurant menus vary by place, so every design carries an allergen key anyway, and your local health unit or lawyer confirms what applies to you.
- Can BOOSTD build a restaurant app or handle our SEO and marketing too?
- Yes. One request can cover a restaurant website, an ordering or loyalty app, SEO, or marketing such as paid search, and you can ask for any mix. Most restaurants start with the website, because direct ordering and booking work without an app. Running several locations? Tick the multi-location option when you book a demo, and each dining room is quoted.
- Will my restaurant website rank on Google?
- It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
- Can I get one of these restaurant website designs?
- Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for restaurants. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
