- SEO plans from $149/month
The short answer
What should a bakery website include?
A bakery website needs a custom cake order form that asks for date, servings, flavour and design and enforces your lead time; pre-orders with limited pickup slots; ingredients and allergens for every item; and deposit terms before payment. Home bakers add the disclosures their cottage food rules require, and wholesale bakeries add standing orders and cut-off times.

What every bakery website includes
A cake builder that respects lead times
Occasion, servings, tiers, flavour, filling, finish and date, step by step, with your notice periods and blackout dates enforced in the calendar and an inspiration photo upload, so every order request arrives complete.
Pickup slots that cannot overbook
Pre-orders for bread, pastry boxes and holiday pies with pickup windows capped at the number of orders you can bake for, closing at your cut-off, so the bench bakes exactly what has been sold.
Deposits and balances
Custom orders take a deposit online with your cancellation and change terms shown before payment, and the balance is collected at pickup or by link, so dates are held only for committed customers.
Ingredients and allergens on every item
Each product page lists ingredients, the priority allergens and any precautionary line such as a kitchen that handles nuts, from one allergen sheet you maintain, so the website, labels and shop tickets agree.
Wholesale ordering for trade customers
A trade page with the range, spec sheets, delivery days and cut-offs, plus an account request form and standing orders cafés can change themselves before the cut-off.
Shipping that tells the truth
For cookie tins and gifts that travel: dispatch days, delivery areas and packaging stated before checkout, with notices sent if an order will be late, as mail-order rules expect.
Home bakery disclosures
For cottage food bakers: the home-kitchen statement, permit or registration details and any product limits shown on listings and in the footer, in the form your state or local health unit asks for.
A gallery that sells the next cake
Past cakes sorted by occasion, each linked to the builder with its style pre-filled, so a visitor who finds a design they love can start an order from it.
Compliance
The rules for bakeries, handled in the design
Bakery sites carry food labelling and selling rules: allergens on packaged goods, home-kitchen disclosures, shipping times and deposit terms. Each rule below links to its source.
Sources gathered October 1, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your lawyer or local health unit has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.
- US
Sesame and the major allergens on packaged goods
FALCPA names eight major food allergens and the FASTER Act made sesame the ninth from 1 January 2023; packaged foods containing them must declare them on the label. Packaged items sold online show the same allergen declaration on the product page as on the label.
US — FDA: the FASTER Act, sesame as the ninth major food allergen
- Canada
Priority allergens on prepackaged food
Prepackaged foods in Canada must show priority allergens, gluten sources and added sulphites in the ingredient list or a “Contains” statement, using the source names the Food and Drug Regulations set. Product pages for packaged items repeat the label’s “Contains” statement word for word.
- US · state law
Cottage food adverts in California
California registers or permits home bakers as cottage food operations, limited to approved non-perishable foods and labelled “Made in a Home Kitchen”; county guidance says adverts, websites included, must also name the county of approval and the permit or registration number. Each state differs, so the footer carries your own state’s wording.
- Ontario
Home-based food businesses
Since 2020 Ontario’s Food Premises Regulation eases some requirements for home businesses that prepare only low-risk foods, such as most breads, cookies and cakes without cream fillings, and the province’s guide asks home bakers to contact their local public health unit first. Listings make clear which items are low-risk and made at home.

Shipping times for baked goods ordered online
When baked goods are ordered online and shipped, the FTC’s Mail Order Rule says a seller needs a reasonable basis for the dispatch time it promises (30 days applies when no time is given) and must get consent to a delay or refund the order. Product pages state dispatch days and the order flow sends a delay notice.

- Ontario
Online orders and deposits
Ontario’s consumer protection rules for internet agreements ask the seller to disclose the total price, delivery details and cancellation or refund terms before the buyer accepts, and to send a copy of the agreement afterwards. The cake checkout shows the deposit, balance and change terms before payment and emails the confirmation.

Apps
A bakery rarely needs a customer app: the website takes cake orders and pre-orders. An app earns its place for wholesale customers who reorder every week.

Apps for bakeriesBranding
A bakery brand has to work on a cake box, a bread bag and a label with ingredients on it, so the identity is designed with the packaging in mind from the start.

Questions
Bakeries: common questions
- How much does a bakery website cost?
- A bakery website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
- Can customers order custom cakes on my website?
- Yes. The cake builder walks a customer through occasion, servings, flavour, filling, finish and date, with an inspiration photo upload, and only offers dates outside your lead time. It takes a deposit with your terms shown first, or sends a quote request if you price every cake by hand.
- How do pre-orders and pickup slots work?
- You set the items, the pickup windows and how many orders each window takes. When a window is full it closes, and pre-orders close at your cut-off, so you bake to a list. Each morning you get a production sheet totalled by product and window, and customers get a reminder before pickup.
- Can I have a website if I bake from home?
- Usually yes, under your state’s cottage food law or your province’s rules for home-based food businesses, and the site is built to follow them. Some places, such as California, ask adverts and websites to carry the home-kitchen statement and permit details, so they appear on listings and in the footer. Your local health unit confirms what applies.
- Can BOOSTD also build a bakery app or do SEO for my bakery?
- Yes. The same request form handles bakery work of every kind, from a website or an app to SEO and marketing: a wholesale reorder app or local SEO for cake searches can sit beside the site. Most bakeries begin with the website, since it already takes orders. With several shops or a franchise, mention the multi-location option when you ask us for a demo.
- Will my bakery website rank on Google?
- It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
- Can I get one of these bakery website designs?
- Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for bakeries. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
