The short answer

What should a painting contractor website include?

A painting contractor website needs before-and-after photos of your own interiors and exteriors, a quote form that takes room or wall photos, and a way to book an estimate or colour consultation. It should show your licence where required, mention work on pre-1978 homes only if your firm is EPA lead-safe certified, and back any low-VOC claim with the paint’s data sheet.

Built in

What every painting contractor website includes

  • Before-and-after walls with the prep explained

Each project pairs a before and an after photo with what happened in between: scraping, patching, priming, caulking and coats. Buyers comparing estimates see why a two-coat job with proper prep costs what it does.

  • Photo quotes room by room

Visitors photograph each room or elevation and choose walls, ceilings, trim or doors, so you can send a range before the visit and spend estimate time only on serious jobs.

  • Colour consultations booked online

Homeowners book a colour visit into the slots you offer and say which rooms, so the consultant arrives with the right sample boards and leaves a written estimate behind.

  • Older-home pages that follow the lead rule

Pre-1978 work appears on the site only when your firm is lead-safe certified; the certification is entered with its expiry date, sits beside the services it covers and comes off the site when it lapses.

  • Paint claims backed by data sheets

Low-VOC and zero-VOC wording is tied to the product line you actually use and its data sheet, with tint noted where colourant changes the figure, rather than a general “eco painter” claim.

  • An exterior season you can plan

Exterior pages show when walk-arounds, prep and painting happen in your climate and switch to a next-season list when the calendar fills, so nobody is promised a dry week you cannot give them.

Found locally

How painters get found in the areas they serve

Google runs the Business Profile and Local Services Ads programmes and decides who qualifies. We build the site and the area pages to Google’s rules and keep your profile accurate. Badges such as Google Verified (which replaced Google Guaranteed and Google Screened in 2025) are Google’s to grant, not ours.

  1. 01

    Google Business Profile

Primary category “Painter”, with interior, exterior, cabinet and commercial painting listed as separate services, photos of finished rooms added through the year, and the address hidden if customers never come to you.

  2. 02

    Local Services Ads

Where Google offers Local Services Ads for painters in your market, Google screens the business and may show its Google Verified badge; you apply to Google directly. Painting is not on Google’s advanced-verification list for ads, which names locksmiths and garage door services.

  3. 03

    Neighbourhood pages, not doorway pages

Google treats near-identical town pages as doorway abuse. Each area page shows homes painted there, the housing age and siding types, and any HOA colour rules, or it is not published.

  4. 04

    Ride the exterior season

Searches for exterior painters rise as the weather warms. Pages, posts and ads shift from interior work in winter to exterior walk-arounds in late winter and spring, so you book the summer early.

Compliance

The rules for painters, handled in the design

Painting marketing has a few rules that catch good painters out: lead-safe certification for older homes, licence numbers in ads, and what “zero-VOC” really has to mean. These are the rules the designs are built around.

Sources gathered October 1, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your state licensing board, EPA or state lead program, or lawyer has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.

  • US

Lead-safe firm certification before advertising older-home work

EPA says firms paid to disturb paint in homes built before 1978 must be certified and use certified renovators, and may not advertise that work without firm certification. The site offers pre-1978 painting only for certified firms and shows the certification only while it is current.

EPA — Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Program

  • US

The Renovate Right pamphlet before work

Under the RRP rule, certified firms give the owner or occupant EPA’s Renovate Right pamphlet before covered work begins, within a set window. Older-home pages explain that the customer will receive it, and the booking confirmation includes a link to it.

eCFR — 40 CFR Part 745, Subpart E (residential property renovation)

  • US

    Zero-VOC and non-toxic paint claims

The FTC’s Green Guides treat “zero-VOC” as a free-of claim and “non-toxic” as a claim needing substantiation for people and the environment. Product mentions cite the paint’s data sheet, note where tint adds VOCs, and the company is never called “green” in general.

    eCFR — 16 CFR 260.9 (free-of claims)

  • California

When painters need a CSLB licence

CSLB says painting jobs of 1,000 dollars or more in labour and materials, or any job needing a permit or hired workers, require a licence; unlicensed painters may advertise only smaller work and must say they are not licensed. Licensed painters show the number in the footer and on quote forms.

CSLB — C-33 Painting and decorating classification

  • Maryland

MHIC name and number in every ad

Maryland’s Home Improvement Commission says each home improvement advertisement must carry the contractor’s name and MHIC licence number, and that a price which leaves out items must say so. Maryland painting sites show the MHIC number site-wide and avoid teaser prices.

Maryland Home Improvement Commission — advertising

  • Massachusetts

    HIC registration number in advertising

Massachusetts requires residential contractors to display their home improvement contractor registration number on contracts, permits and advertisements, and bars misleading statements. Massachusetts sites carry the registration number in the footer and on every estimate form.

Questions

Painters: common questions

How much does a painting contractor website cost?
A painting website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.Booking tools, call tracking numbers and any paid ads are billed by their providers, not by us.
Can my painting website offer work on pre-1978 homes?
Only if your firm is EPA lead-safe certified, or certified under your state’s authorised programme. EPA says uncertified firms may not offer or advertise paint-disturbing work in pre-1978 homes. If you are certified, older-home pages show it with its expiry date; if not, the site leaves that work out.
Can I say we use zero-VOC or eco-friendly paint?
Say it about the product, with proof. The FTC’s Green Guides treat “zero-VOC” as a free-of claim and want broad “eco-friendly” claims qualified with a specific benefit. We tie each claim to the paint line you use and its data sheet, note where tint adds VOCs, and never call the company “green”.
Can customers get a painting quote from photos?
A range, yes. Visitors photograph each room or side of the house and choose walls, ceilings, trim or doors. You reply with a range and book a short visit to confirm colours, wall condition and prep, and the written price follows before any work begins.
Where does my licence number go on a painting website?
In the footer of every page and on estimate forms. California requires a CSLB licence for painting jobs of 1,000 dollars or more, Maryland wants the MHIC number in every home improvement ad, and Massachusetts asks for the HIC registration number. You enter each number once and every page uses it.
Will my painting contractor website rank on Google?
It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
How long does a painting website take to build?
About 4 weeks for a local site and about 8 weeks for a larger one, counted from the day we have your content, logo, photos and licence details. A larger site is planned with an advisor first, so its timeline is confirmed in writing before any work starts. We aim to launch before exterior season so the spring walk-arounds book on the new site.
Can I get one of these painting website designs?
Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for painters. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
