Websites for medical specialists
Medical specialist website design for referrals and patient prep
Medical specialist website design for specialist physicians and specialty clinics: a referral path a referring office can use in a minute, waits posted with the date, preparation pages that cut day-of cancellations, and certification titles worded the way your college and state allow. SEO is built in, so newly referred patients find the right clinic.
- Website from $150/month, yours after 12 payments
- SEO plans from $149/month
The short answer
What should a medical specialist’s website include?
A specialist website serves two readers. Referring physicians need the referral criteria, a secure way to send requests and a sense of current wait times. Referred patients need directions, preparation instructions for tests and procedures, and what to bring. Certification titles must match the register, and in California and Texas “board certified” is limited to recognised boards.

Built in
What every specialist practice website includes
A referral form physicians finish
Specialty-specific referral fields, attachments and urgency, sent over an encrypted form and confirmed back to the referring office. Where your province or health system uses an e-referral route, the page points to it rather than competing with it.
Wait times posted honestly
A table the clinic updates monthly, by urgency, with the date it was last changed. Referring physicians can set expectations with their patients, and the office answers fewer status calls.
Preparation pages that save procedures
Step-by-step instructions for each test or procedure, timed to the appointment date, with printable versions and medicine-hold reminders written for the physician to approve. Fewer cancellations on the day.
Certification titles that hold up
Each specialist page states the certification behind the title, Royal College in Canada or the board in the US. “Board certified” appears only beside the full name of a board your state recognises for that wording, and “board eligible” never appears at all.
Follow-ups for patients already in care
Established patients book video or in-clinic follow-ups online, where the scheduling tool offers an integration, while new patients are routed to the referral path. Virtual visits are offered only where the physician is licensed.
Referral data under a signed agreement
Referral and patient forms run on vendors that sign a business associate agreement in the US or act as PHIPA service providers in Ontario, with no tracking scripts on those pages. Consult letters never travel by plain email.
Directions for people who are anxious
Parking, entrances, what to bring and how long to allow, on one page with a map, built to WCAG 2.2 AA. Patients referred for a first specialist visit are often worried, and clear practical detail helps them arrive on time.
Must-have pages
The pages every specialist practice website needs
Each page answers a question people ask before they book, and each one can rank for that question on its own.
Refer a patient
Referral criteria by condition, what to attach, the secure form and the fax or e-referral route, with a receipt sent back to the referring office.
Wait times
The clinic’s own waits by urgency, with the date they were posted, so referrers can set expectations; estimates, never promises.
Prepare for your test or procedure
Instructions per procedure timed to the appointment date, printable, approved by the physicians and marked as general information.
Your first visit and follow-ups
What to bring and how long to allow, and online booking of follow-ups for patients already in care, with new patients sent to the referral route.
Physicians and certification
Each specialist with the certification behind the title (Royal College, or the full name of the US board) and registration or licence number.
Conditions and tests
One plain page per test or condition the clinic sees, so referred patients searching the name of their test land on your instructions.
Coverage, referrals and fees
In Canada, that a referral is needed for an insured consultation and which services are uninsured; in the US, plans billed, prior authorization and good faith estimates.
Accessibility and getting here
Entrance, parking, drop-off and which floor, with step-free access stated and an accessibility statement with a contact.
Search, AI answers and maps
How clients search for medical specialists
Most specialist searches happen after the referral: the patient has a clinic name on a letter or requisition and looks it up for the address, parking and what to do before the visit. The other searcher is a referring office on a desktop, after the referral form or the fax number, and it wants them in seconds.
How referred patients and referring offices search
“[clinic name] parking” and “[clinic name] address”
Branded searches dominate. A Business Profile and a getting-here page with the same entrance details settle them.
“Colonoscopy prep instructions” and “what to expect at a sleep study”
Preparation pages with question headings answer these and stop the anxious late-evening phone call.
“Cardiologist near me” and “rheumatologist accepting referrals”
Specialty pages that say a referral is needed and how to get one keep self-referrals from filling the phone line.
“[specialty] referral form” and “[clinic] fax number”
Referring offices search like this; a referral page that leads with the form, fax and criteria wins their repeat business.
“Board certified allergist near me” and “in-network endocrinologist”
US patients filter by credentials and plan; physician pages naming the full board and a text list of plans answer both.
What we build for search, AI answers and maps
- 01
The specialty as the Business Profile category
Primary category for the specialty itself, such as “Cardiologist”, “Gastroenterologist” or “Rheumatologist”, with “Medical clinic” secondary, and the fax number and referral page in the profile.
- 02
Structured data per clinic and physician
MedicalClinic markup with medicalSpecialty on each location and Physician on each doctor page; no review or rating markup about the practice.
- 03
Prep pages that assistants can cite
Each test or procedure page opens with a short answer (what it is, how to prepare, how long it takes) that AI answers and featured snippets can quote and credit.
- 04
One set of facts across directories
Clinic name, address, fax, hours and each physician’s certification kept the same on Google, hospital and health-system directories, the college register and the site.
- 05
Reviews and reporting
The same review request to every patient after a visit, replies that never confirm care, and a monthly report of referral-form use, calls and the pages patients read before a visit.
No one can promise a ranking or a place in an AI answer. We build the pages, data and profile that search engines and assistants read, and report what changes.
Compliance
The rules for medical specialists, handled in the design
Specialist practice websites answer to a physicians’ college or medical board on titles and certification, and to health-privacy law on referrals. Here is what each asks of a specialist site, and how every design handles it.
Sources gathered October 1, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your physicians’ college or medical board, your privacy officer or your lawyer has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.
- Ontario
Specialist recognition and the title used
The CPSO recognises a physician as a specialist through Royal College certification or its own recognition criteria, and asks that advertised titles match. A doctor without that recognition does not use “specialist” or a specialty name. Every specialist page in these designs names the certification behind the title.
- Ontario
No comparisons with other physicians
Ontario Regulation 114/94 bars comparative and superlative statements and testimonials in physician advertising, and the CPSO advertising policy applies that to websites. Clinic pages describe tests, wait times and how referrals work, carry no patient quotes, and never claim faster or better care than another clinic.
- US · California
“Board certified” in California
Business and Professions Code §651 lets a California physician advertise “board certified” only for an ABMS member board, a board with an ACGME-accredited program, or a board the medical board approved before 2019, and the board’s full name must appear with comparable prominence. The designs use the phrase only where the doctor qualifies.
- US · Texas
“Board certified” in Texas, and no “board eligible”
The Texas Medical Board’s advertising rules, rewritten in January 2025, allow “board certified” for ABMS member boards, the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists, the oral and maxillofacial surgery board, or a board the TMB approves (22 TAC §164.4), and treat “board eligible” or “board qualified” as misleading. The designs show only the certification a doctor holds.
22 Tex. Admin. Code §164.4 — Advertising board certification
- US
Referral and intake vendors under HIPAA
HIPAA’s rules say a vendor that receives patient information on a practice’s behalf is a business associate and needs a written agreement with set terms. Referral forms, prep reminders and booking tools are chosen from vendors that sign one; a vendor that will not sign gets no patient data.
- Ontario
Electronic service providers under PHIPA
Ontario’s privacy commissioner says vendors that help a custodian handle health information electronically may use it only to provide that service, and providers serving several custodians carry extra duties. The referral form and portal vendors are bound by a written agreement to those limits.

Questions
Medical specialists: common questions
- How much does a medical specialist website cost?
- A specialist practice website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
- Can referring physicians send referrals through the website?
- Yes. A referral form asks for exactly what your triage needs, accepts attachments, and confirms receipt to the referring office, all over an encrypted connection. Where your province or health system runs an e-referral route, the page points to it too, so the website supports existing channels instead of replacing them.
- Should we post wait times on our website?
- If you can keep them current, yes. A table by urgency, updated monthly with the date shown, lets referring physicians set expectations with their patients and cuts status calls. The page states that times are estimates, never promises, and nothing compares your waits with another clinic’s.
- Can the site prepare patients for procedures and tests?
- Yes. Patients pick their procedure and appointment date, and the page lays out what to eat, which medicines to pause and when, as your physicians have written it. Each set of instructions can be printed or saved to a phone, and carries a line to call the clinic if anything is unclear.
- How should certification appear on a specialist’s page?
- State the certification behind the title. In Ontario that means Royal College or CFPC certification, or CPSO recognition, before using “specialist” or a specialty name. In California and Texas “board certified” is limited to recognised boards named in full, and Texas treats “board eligible” as misleading. Each doctor page shows only what the register supports.
- What should a specialist practice website include?
- A referral page with criteria, a secure form and the fax or e-referral route; posted waits with a date; preparation instructions for every test and procedure; first-visit and follow-up booking; physician pages with the certification behind each title; coverage and fees; directions with accessible entrances; and a privacy notice. Two readers use it: referring offices and referred patients.
- Can a specialist post patient testimonials or success stories?
- Not in Ontario: the regulation under the Medicine Act bars testimonials and comparative statements, so the site shows no patient quotes, outcome figures or claims of better results than another clinic. In the US, the FTC’s rules ban fake or bought reviews and require results claims to be typical, and state boards add their own advertising limits.
- Can patients ask questions through the website’s contact form?
- For practical questions only. The basic contact form asks for a name, a phone number and a short non-clinical reason, and it tells patients not to include health details. Symptoms, results and medication questions go to the clinic by phone or through the encrypted patient form or portal, and referrals arrive through the secure referral form, never a plain contact form.
- Will my specialist practice website rank on Google?
- It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
- Can I get one of these specialist website designs?
- Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for medical specialists. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
