The short answer

What should a dance studio website include?

A dance studio website should help a parent find the right class by age and style, register online, and see the full season cost, including registration, costume and recital fees, before paying. It also needs a recital page with total ticket prices, a clear photo-consent choice for dancers under 18, and a way for families to find schedules and notices.

Built in

What every dance studio website includes

  • Online registration for the season

Families pick classes, add siblings and pay the registration fee in one sitting, with waitlists for full classes. The form asks the parent for the dancer’s details and medical notes, and sends them to the studio securely.

  • The full season cost, shown first

Tuition, registration, costume and recital fees appear together before anyone pays, and a monthly instalment schedule sits beside the total. Canada and the UK treat hidden mandatory fees as misleading, and families trust a studio that shows the whole number.

  • A class finder by age and style

A short finder asks the dancer’s age, experience and preferred evenings and returns the classes that fit, including the trial option. Parents of beginners stop guessing whether “Jazz 2” is right for their child.

  • A recital hub

Show order, dress rehearsal call times, costume pick-up and tickets live on one page each spring. Ticket prices are shown with every mandatory fee included, and the recording policy is stated before families arrive.

  • Photo and video consent built in

Registration asks the parent whether their dancer may appear in photos and videos online, and staff see that choice before posting. Galleries, social posts and recital videos only use dancers whose families agreed.

  • Music licensing noted where it belongs

A footer line and a policy page say how the studio licenses the music it plays in class, at recitals and in videos. It keeps posted recital clips from being taken down and shows parents the studio takes care of the details.

  • Competition team pages

Each team gets its own page with the audition date, extra rehearsal hours, travel and costume costs, and the competitions planned, so families know the commitment before the audition.

Compliance

The rules for dance studios, handled in the design

Dance studios play music in public, sell recital tickets, quote season fees and publish photos of young dancers. These are the website rules we design around for each, in Canada, the US and the UK, linked to the body that sets them.

Sources gathered October 1, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your music licensing body, your consumer protection office or your lawyer has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.

  • Canada

Music in classes and recitals needs licences

The Copyright Act gives songwriters the sole right to perform their music in public and entitles performers and record makers to equitable remuneration when a published recording is played in public. For dance instruction these are paid through SOCAN and Re:Sound tariffs, so the designs carry a music licensing line, and recital videos are only posted when the music in them is cleared for that use.

    Copyright Act (Canada), R.S.C. 1985, c. C-42 (ss. 3 and 19)

  • US

    Public performance and recital videos

US copyright law gives songwriters the right to perform their work publicly, which is why studios hold licences from performing rights organisations such as ASCAP and BMI. Putting a recital video with a commercial song online is a separate use that a performance licence may not cover, so video pages note how each piece is cleared.

    U.S. Copyright Office — Title 17, Chapter 1, §106

  • UK

    TheMusicLicence for classes and shows

GOV.UK says a business usually needs a licence from PPL PRS, called TheMusicLicence, to play live or recorded music in public, and PPL PRS sells it for dance classes. UK versions of the designs state the studio holds it and list any music the studio has commissioned or cleared separately.

GOV.UK — Get a licence to play live or recorded music

  • US

Recital tickets shown at their total price

The FTC Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees, in force since 12 May 2025, requires any business offering a price for live-event tickets to show the total price, including mandatory fees, more prominently than other pricing; taxes, shipping and optional extras may be left out. Recital ticket pages show the all-in price from the first screen, with optional extras like programmes added separately.

FTC — Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees, 16 CFR Part 464

  • Canada

    No drip pricing on tuition

Canada’s drip-pricing rule, in the Competition Act since 2022, counts a tuition price as misleading if compulsory extras other than taxes are only added at the end. If a costume or recital fee is mandatory for a class, the season price shown on the website includes it rather than revealing it at registration.

    Competition Act (Canada), section 74.01

  • Ontario

Online registration is an internet agreement

Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002 sets rules for internet agreements above a small minimum value: the studio must disclose set information beforehand, give the parent a chance to accept, decline or correct errors, and supply a copy they can keep and print within 15 days. Registration ends on a review screen with the fees, terms and a downloadable copy.

Ontario — Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (internet agreements)

  • UK

Children’s photos and data handled lawfully

The ICO explains that children merit specific protection under the UK GDPR because they may be less aware of the risks, so a lawful basis needs extra thought and privacy information must be clear and suited to their age. Registration asks the parent about photos and videos, gallery pages use only dancers whose families agreed, and the privacy notice is written in plain language.

Questions

Dance studios: common questions

How much does a dance studio website cost?
A dance studio website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
Should a dance studio website show costume and recital fees?
Yes, alongside tuition and registration. When a costume or recital fee is required for a class, Canada’s Competition Act and UK consumer law treat a price that leaves it out as misleading, and parents remember the surprise. Showing the season total with a monthly payment option keeps registrations up and spring disputes down.
Do we need a music licence to post recital videos on our website?
Often, yes. A performance licence from SOCAN and Re:Sound, ASCAP and BMI, or PPL PRS usually covers playing music in class and at the show, but putting a video with a commercial song online can be a separate use. The site can host videos you have cleared, and your licensing body confirms what yours covers.
Can parents register and pay for dance classes online?
Yes. Parents choose classes, add siblings, accept the policies and pay the registration fee or first instalment in one sitting, then receive a copy of what they agreed to. Registrations go to any system that accepts them by email, webhook or API; a direct connection to your studio management software is scoped with an advisor and quoted.
How do you handle photos of young dancers on the website?
Registration asks each parent whether their dancer may appear in photos and videos online, and the choice is stored with the dancer’s record. Staff check it before anything is posted, galleries never pair a child’s photo with a full name, and a parent can change their mind at any time.
Will my dance studio website rank on Google?
It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
How long does a dance studio website take to build?
About 4 weeks for a local site and about 8 weeks for a larger one, counted from the day we have your content, logo, photos and licence details. A larger site is planned with an advisor first, so its timeline is confirmed in writing before any work starts. We plan launch around your registration date, and you run a test registration and recital ticket purchase before anything goes live.
Can I get one of these dance studio website designs?
Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for dance studios. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
