Criminal defense lawyer websites that answer after an arrest

Websites for criminal defence lawyers that answer the call after an arrest: a 24/7 line on every screen, a page for each charge you defend, a plain “what to do if you are arrested” guide, outcomes shown only beside the disclaimer your bar requires, and intake that never asks anyone to write down what happened.

The short answer

What should a criminal defence lawyer website have?

A criminal defence website needs a phone number answered day and night, visible on every screen, and a short form that asks who was arrested and where they are held, never for an account of events. Add one page per charge type, a guide to what to do after an arrest, and show any dismissals or acquittals only beside a prior-results disclaimer.

Built in

What every criminal defence lawyer website includes

  • An arrest line on every screen

A click-to-call button fixed on phones and a number in the header on desktop, routed to the lawyer on call or your answering service around the clock, with a missed-call text back to the caller.

  • Intake that asks who and where, not what

Forms take the name of the person arrested, where they are held, the next court date and a phone number, and tell the visitor not to describe the allegation, which protects privilege and the client.

  • A page for each charge

Impaired driving or DUI, assault, domestic charges, drugs, theft and fraud, weapons, sexual offences and youth matters, each explaining what must be proved, possible penalties and common defences in your jurisdiction.

  • “What to do if you are arrested”

A plain guide to the right to silence, the right to counsel, bail and the first appearance, written for a family member reading on a phone outside a police station.

  • Outcomes with their disclaimer

An optional ledger of withdrawn charges, stays, diversions and acquittals you have verified and clients have agreed to, with the prior-results statement on the same screen and no conviction-avoidance rate.

  • Courthouse and city pages

A page for each courthouse and detention centre you attend, with addresses and what happens there, so “criminal lawyer near [courthouse]” searches reach you.

How clients search

The searches and pages a criminal defence lawyer website needs

Criminal defence searches are urgent and often made by someone else: a parent or partner after a late-night call from a police station, on a phone, typing the charge, the city and “lawyer” or “24 hour”. The accused searches later, before a first court date, often for the exact charge. Spelling splits by country: Americans search “criminal defense attorney” and “DUI lawyer”, Canadians “criminal lawyer”, “criminal defence lawyer” and “impaired driving lawyer”. People also ask assistants what a charge means, so plain charge pages get read first.

  • “criminal lawyer near me”
  • “dui lawyer near me”
  • “criminal defense attorney free consultation”
  • “what happens at a bail hearing”
  • “impaired driving lawyer ontario”
  • “assault charge lawyer”
  • “how much does a criminal lawyer cost”
  • “what to do if police want to question you”
  1. 01

    Charge pages

One page for each charge you defend, such as impaired driving or DUI, assault, domestic charges, drugs, theft, fraud, weapons and sexual offences, each explaining what must be proved, the possible penalties and the defences a lawyer checks first in your jurisdiction.

  2. 02

    After an arrest

A plain guide for the family: the right to remain silent, the right to a lawyer, what bail or release involves and what happens at the first appearance, written to be read on a phone outside a police station.

  3. 03

    Bail and release

How bail hearings or release conditions work where you practise, what a surety or co-signer does, and what happens if a condition is broken. Families search this within hours of an arrest.

  4. 04

    Courthouse pages

One page per courthouse you attend, with the address, entrances, parking and what to expect at a first appearance there, so a search with the courthouse name finds a lawyer who is actually in that building.

  5. 05

    Fees

Block fees by stage or by charge, what affects the cost, whether you accept legal aid certificates or court appointments where those apply, and what a first consultation costs.

  6. 06

    Youth matters

How youth charges, youth court and records differ from adult ones, written for parents, with a reminder that the young person, not the parent, is the client.

  7. 07

    Immigration consequences

Why a plea can affect status for non-citizens, and a note to raise it at the first meeting, for firms whose clients include permanent residents and visitors.

SEO, AEO and GEO

How criminal defence lawyers get found in Google and in AI answers

  • Profile and hours that match the arrest line

Google Business Profile offers categories such as Criminal justice attorney and DUI attorney. If the line truly answers around the clock, the hours say so; if not, they show the real hours. Photos show the real office, never a stock courtroom.

  • Two spellings, one site

US pages say “defense” and Canadian pages say “defence”, matching how people search in each country. A firm in one country uses its own spelling throughout and can mention the other once, rather than duplicating pages, which helps both search engines and readers.

  • Charge answers assistants can lift

Each charge page opens with what the charge means and its possible penalties in two or three sentences, cites the statute or code section, and names the reviewing lawyer and date, which suits AI Overviews and assistants and a YMYL topic.

  • Local Services Ads and directories

Google runs Local Services Ads for criminal defence in many areas, with its own screening; eligibility is Google’s call. Bar directories, legal directories and map listings should carry the same firm name, address and phone as the site.

Compliance

The rules for criminal defence lawyers, handled in the design

Defence lawyers advertise under their bar or law society’s rules, and several states add their own limits on contacting people after an arrest. These are the rules that shape a defence site’s outcomes, arrest line, follow-up and “specialist” wording, and what each design does about them.

Sources gathered October 6, 2026. This is how our designs handle these rules, not legal advice: rules change and differ by province and state, so your bar or law society (or your ethics counsel) has the final word, and you approve every page before it goes live.

  • US · ABA Model Rule 7.1

Dismissals and acquittals are results too

Rule 7.1 forbids misleading communications, and its comment cautions that reports of past outcomes can mislead by implying a new client will get the same. Defence sites show a withdrawn charge or an acquittal only as a verified entry with a statement that each case depends on its evidence, and never a “cases won” count.

  • US · ABA Model Rule 7.3

No live solicitation of the arrested

Rule 7.3 prohibits seeking work through in-person, live phone or real-time video contact with someone known to need legal services, where gain is a significant motive. The arrest line is inbound only: the site invites the accused or their family to call, and staff never cold-call people found on arrest lists or jail rosters.

    ABA — Model Rule 7.3

  • New York

The label and the results statement

New York’s Rule 7.1 asks that a website home page be labelled “Attorney Advertising”, and that an advertisement describing results or the quality of a lawyer’s services carry “Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.” New York versions of the defence designs show both, the second inside the outcomes ledger.

Cornell LII — 22 NYCRR 1200.7.1 (New York Rule 7.1)

  • Florida

Letters marked “advertisement”, texts treated as contact

Florida’s Rule 4-7.18 limits direct contact with prospective clients and asks that direct written communications be marked “advertisement”, and the Bar’s advertising committee has treated unsolicited texts as prohibited solicitation. Any follow-up template for Florida firms carries the marking, and no text goes to anyone who has not contacted the firm.

  • Texas

    Written solicitation to arrestees

Texas removed the arrestee provision from its barratry statute, Penal Code 38.12, in 2013, so letters to people recently arrested are governed by the disciplinary rules (Part VII, revised in 2021), which ask that written solicitations be marked “ADVERTISEMENT” and filed with the State Bar. Texas versions keep any arrest-list mailing separate from the website and flag it for the firm’s own review.

  • US · ABA Opinion 10-457

Never ask for the story online

Formal Opinion 10-457 notes that a site inviting details of a matter can create duties to the person who sends them. For an accused person, a written account sent through a web form is also a risk in itself, so defence intake collects names, place of detention and court date only, and says so above the form.

  • Ontario

    Certified specialists in criminal law

Ontario’s rule 4.2-1 asks that a lawyer’s marketing be demonstrably true, accurate and verifiable, and rule 4.3-1 lets a lawyer advertise as a specialist only if the Law Society has certified them, which it does in criminal law. Its commentary also lists suggesting that a lawyer is aggressive among marketing that may breach the rule, so the designs avoid “aggressive defence” language, and profiles say “practises criminal defence” unless a certification is entered with the Law Society named.

Questions

Criminal defence lawyers: common questions

How much does a criminal defence lawyer website cost?
A criminal defence website of up to 25 pages is $1,500 paid upfront, or $150 a month for 12 months, and it is yours after the 12th payment. A larger site of up to about 100 pages is $4,000, or $400 a month. Hosting and care is $29 or $49 a month. Prices are in US dollars.
Can a criminal defense lawyer show dismissed charges and acquittals on a website?
Usually yes, if each one is true, verified and shown with the disclaimer your bar requires on the same screen, such as New York’s “Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.” Get the client’s consent, avoid identifying details, and never publish a count of cases won or a dismissal rate, which implies a result for the next client.
What should a defence lawyer’s contact form ask?
Only what you need to call back and check conflicts: the name of the person charged, where they are held or their next court date, the charge if known and a phone number. It should tell the visitor not to describe the alleged offence, because a written account sent online sits outside a privileged meeting.
Can a defence lawyer contact people who were just arrested?
Not by live phone call or in person under ABA Model Rule 7.3 and the state rules built on it. Some states allow letters with conditions, such as marking them “advertisement”, and Florida’s bar has treated unsolicited texts as prohibited solicitation. Our sites are built for inbound calls: the arrested person or their family reaches you, never the reverse.
Why does a criminal defence website need a page for each charge?
Because people search for their charge, not for “criminal lawyer”. A page each for impaired driving or DUI, assault, drug offences, theft, weapons and youth charges can match those searches, explain what must be proved and the possible penalties, and turn a frightened reader into a consultation.
Should my website say “criminal defence” or “criminal defense”?
Use the spelling your clients use. Canadian and British readers write “defence”; Americans write “defense”, and US search results follow that spelling. A Canadian firm should keep “defence” and also use the phrases Canadians actually type, such as “criminal lawyer” and “impaired driving lawyer”, rather than building a second set of pages in American spelling.
Will my criminal defence lawyer website rank on Google?
It launches with the technical SEO done: fast pages, clean structure, structured data, local pages and redirects from your old site. To keep climbing, a BOOSTD SEO plan from $149 a month runs 262 checks on your site every week, fixes what is safe to fix and gets the rest ready for your OK.No one can promise a position on Google, and we never do. Google warns businesses about anyone who does.
Can I get one of these criminal defence website designs?
Yes. Each is a complete, ready-to-launch website design BOOSTD made for criminal defence lawyers. Pick one and we make it yours, with your name, colours, photos, content and the licence or compliance details your industry expects, from $150 a month and yours after 12 payments.Approved client sites are shown with a “Client work” tag, and only with the client’s written permission.
