What a general AI agent is

A general AI agent takes a goal, breaks it into steps and works through them: searching, reading, writing, using apps you connect. You describe the outcome; it does the steps. The best ones are genuinely impressive, and useful for far more than SEO.

Perplexity Computer is a well-known example. Perplexity launched it in February 2026 and describes it as a general-purpose digital worker. VentureBeat’s launch coverage reported that it coordinated 19 AI models and was available first to Perplexity Max subscribers, at $200 a month. In March 2026 Perplexity opened it to Pro subscribers too, with Max keeping a monthly allowance of credits and higher spending limits. For businesses, its Enterprise Max plan, at $325 per seat per month, includes Computer with a monthly allowance of credits.

Both plans include a monthly allowance of credits that tasks use up. Since March 2026 Computer is also available on Perplexity Pro, with lower spending limits than Max. Prices are as of October 2026, in US dollars, from the sources linked.

How they can work together

These are not rivals. A general agent is a strong assistant for the owner: use it to research a new service, draft ideas for a page, or think through a competitor. A done-for-you system is the routine: it keeps the keywords, the website, the listings, the reviews and the leads moving every week, whether or not anyone remembers to ask.

A sensible split is to keep the agent for thinking and one-off work, and let the SEO routine run on its own, with your approval on anything that changes what your business says or publishes. If an agent gives you a good idea for a page, pass it on as a request, and it goes through the same approval and the same monthly record as everything else.

Can an AI agent do my SEO?

It can do many SEO tasks well when you ask: research keywords, review a page, draft content, compare competitors. Some agents can also run tasks on a schedule.

Running SEO every week also needs a fixed plan, safe website changes with approval and undo, listings, reviews, leads and a monthly record of what changed. With a general agent, someone has to set that up, supervise it and check the results.

What is Perplexity Computer?

Can ChatGPT or another AI assistant do my SEO?

The same answer applies to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and other assistants with agent features. They can research, draft and check pages well when you ask. They do not, on their own, keep a fixed list of target searches, track rankings every week or keep a record of every change to your site, unless someone sets that up and looks after it.

When should I use a general AI agent instead of an SEO service?

When the job is one-off or exploratory: research, a content draft, a competitor review, a spreadsheet cleaned up. When you enjoy directing the work and checking it yourself, an agent is a strong, flexible assistant.
